What to buy the manga reader in your life

Before buying manga for someone else, check the series name, edition and volumes they already own. A standard volume, an omnibus and a box set can contain overlapping chapters. Here are a few starting points, with links to current prices and availability.

For someone who enjoyed Spy x Family

Spy x Family, Vol. 1 starts the manga's mix of action, family life and comedy. It is a way to try the series without committing to a long run at once.

For someone curious about One Piece

One Piece, Vol. 1: Romance Dawn starts Luffy's adventure. Our One Piece starting guide explains the difference between singles, omnibuses and box sets.

For a monster-and-action fan

Kaiju No. 8, Vol. 1 is another opening-volume option. Check the product's age rating and content notes when buying for a younger reader; a first volume is not automatically suitable for every age.

For a reader who wants a larger set

Witch Hat Atelier Manga Box Set 1 contains the first six volumes and art cards. Chainsaw Man's box set covers volumes 1–11, while My Hero Academia Box Set 1 covers volumes 1–20. These included ranges matter: a box set should not be assumed to complete the entire series.

Check each product page for current availability, price and any preorder date. If the gift has a deadline, allow for dispatch and delivery, and remember that physical books ordered with preorders ship together when every preorder is ready. See our delivery information and preorder answers.

If you are unsure what they already own

Ask them to share their favourites list, or choose a Tsundoku Club gift card so they can pick the missing book.
