Cookie Policy
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage to remember your preferences and keep the shop working. In this policy "cookies" refers to all of these.
2. How we use cookies
Strictly essential cookies are always on because the shop cannot function without them. They keep you signed in, remember your basket, store your cookie choice, and protect the checkout experience. Analytics and marketing cookies are off unless you choose them through our banner or the controls on this page.
3. Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary
Required for the shop to work or to honour your choices. These cannot be turned off.
- cart, cart_currency, cart_sig, cart_ts — your basket and its currency.
- localization — country and currency used for pricing.
- _shopify_essential, keep_alive, secure_customer_sig — session, checkout and sign-in security.
- _tracking_consent, _cmp_a — remember the choice you made in the cookie banner.
- tsundoku.favourites (local storage, not a cookie) — the list of titles you have hearted. For signed-in customers it is a cache of the list held on your account; for guests it is the only copy.
Analytics
Set only after you accept analytics in the banner.
- _shopify_y, _shopify_s, _shopify_sa_p, _shopify_sa_t, _landing_page, _orig_referrer — Shopify storefront analytics: sessions, landing page, referrer and conversion events, reported to us in aggregate.
- _ga, _ga_* — Google Analytics 4, only where it is connected through Shopify's Google & YouTube channel. Measurement only; Google signals and ads personalisation are off.
Marketing & advertising
Set only after you accept marketing in the banner.
- _gcl_au, _gcl_aw, _gclid — Google Ads conversion measurement, only where Google Ads is connected through Shopify's Google & YouTube channel. Shopify uses Google Consent Mode v2, so these tags start with storage denied and only run after you opt in.
4. Third-party cookies
Checkout runs on Shopify. Shopify sets the strictly-necessary cookies listed above under its own cookie policy. If you accept analytics or marketing cookies, Google (Google Ireland Ltd. for UK visitors) receives measurement events from your visit; data may be transferred to Google servers in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework / UK Extension. See Google's cookie policy.
5. Managing your preferences
Use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page to change or withdraw your consent at any time — analytics and marketing can be switched on and off independently. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; doing so may break the basket or checkout.
